Rümeysa’s case is symbolic because it chillingly reveals three entangled stories: Trump’s America, Netanyahu’s Israel, and Erdoğan’s selective outrage.
Thank you for this invaluable piece (of a puzzle) concerning the Trump-administration's devastating violations of rights...
Despite the fact that the whole world is gazing at the US-administration in shock and disbelief I have learnt so much more from your post and for this I am infinitely grateful!
This young, budding scientist seems to me a beacon of hope for her generation (her empathy and her measured and disciplined political engagement are such a rarity nowadays) that sincerely I hope some organisations from the international sphere will be able to come to her rescue somehow, for her sake and to make a positive example of her case (to show that the term human right hasn't just evolved into a cynical buzzword of sorts)!
This is absolutely insane - as so many things this administration purports by way of a badly written wannabe-mafia-style soap opera (only that we all have to remind ourselves day after day: this is actually happening...).
Her case is one of the most shocking (and it’s hard to choose); it’s difficult to see how her op-ed is objectionable or even controversial. Perhaps this is point.
Btw. I was wondering the other day: do you think Erdogan was emboldened by the US administration’s authoritarianism at all, calculating there would be little international protest if he cracked down on the domestic opposition?
Or does he not need to be emboldened, and would have proceeded anyway?
Very good piece. Betar is another Fascist-Zionist group to look into as well.

Saw this late last night, yes. They are piling up.

Thank you again!
Mafia-style is the right frame.

It’s shocking really.

Definitely. I wrote about it for the Prospect Magazine a few weeks ago : https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/world/europe/eastern-europe/turkey/69599/erdogan-jailed-political-rival-turkey-impunity
